The Palpung Monastic Primary School is in a three-storey building in traditional Tibetan style with a courtyard surrounded by quarters and classrooms, total built-up area of about 46,390 square feet on the construction base of about 12,620 square feet.
The Design Concept of the School
Being designed according to sutra and traditional temple including geomantic concept, the building of Palpung Monastic Primary School is like a bright, solid and sacred diamond in octagonal shape.
Most of the rooms, classrooms and facilities are surrounding the courtyard, so they all have windows facing the outward of the building, thus create a comfortable environment with fresh air and sunlight for education.
The design goal is to build a school of traditional Tibetan monastic image with modern pragmatic functions. At the same time, easy maintaining and cleaning, fire preventing, and future expanding, are necessary features for the building, which are requested by Gangkar Rinpoche at its design stage.
