August 3rd, 2011, commemorates the day when Lord Buddha turned his first the wheel of Dharma and spoke the Four Noble Truth to his five companions at Varanasi India. On this day the Palpung tradition is to appoint new Khenpos, Lopons, Discipline masters and other staff at the Monastic College (Shedra) Lungrig Jamphel Ling. Selected monks will teach on Buddhism, while some will debate as well as lighten thousand the butter lamps. This year there are no new Khenpos (abbots) or Lopons (masters), so only the evening religious program took place at 7:00 pm with Venerable Pongri Rinpoche, other Young Rinpoches, Lamas, Khenpos and sangha members of Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat. This year four monks gave short teachings on different Buddhist topics, followed by a debate.
