photos

Over one hundred former monastics of Palpung Sherabling gathered at Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat to express their gratitude to

Guru Vajradhara the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa by offering a long life ceremony. For two days prior to the ceremony, they all engaged in cleaning the monastery and its environment, as well as preparing all the necessary offerings. Starting from February 19, headed by the Very Venerable Chungpo Gyalton Rinpoche, the entire monastic community performed the great treasure revealer Ratna Lingpa's Tsedrub Sangdu longevity sadhana for Guru Vajradhara.

The longevity sadhana was completed on February 23, which marked Guru Vajradhara's 64th birthday. At 9 am that day, Guru Vajradhara was escorted into the main temple by a procession of lamas carrying incense and monks playing the gyaling. After he ascended on to the throne, an extensive traditional long-life ceremony was offered. At its conclusion, the power of truth was invoked for Guru Vajradhara to live long and for his enlightened activities to flourish.

At 7 pm, the programme continued in the monastery courtyard with birthday cakes and sweets forming part of a contemporary birthday celebration, along with offerings of birthday wishes, as well as traditional songs and dances.

The following morning, Guru Vajradhara granted an audience to the former monastics and gave them a teaching. He advised them to always do their best to live their lives according to the Dharma by continually cultivating positive intentions and actions. With this, the entire programme related to the long-life ceremony was successfully completed.
