In Tibet nearly 300 years ago, the 8th Tai Situpa established a tradition of performing the Great Palpung Monlam prayer festival at Palpung Thubten Choekhor Ling Monastery in Tibet every year during the waxing period of the Month of Miracles (the first Tibetan month). This tradition continues to this day at Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat in India.

Starting on February 26 2018, the entire monastic community of Palpung Sherabling conducted a five-day prayer festival, which included an offering of 200,000 butter lamps and recitations of several aspiration prayers including the King of Aspiration Prayer. This monlam was dedicated to the welfare of all beings in general, to the living and deceased connected to the Monastic Seat, and to the continuing upholding of the Dharma. A special dedication was made to pacify obstacles to the Dharma such as the recent fire damage to the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa.

On March 2, the lamas who had completed their three-year retreats recalled the life stories of the Kagyu masters of the past by chanting the Rain of Wisdom, a collection of dohas or spiritual songs of realization composed by the Kagyu gurus.
