At the invitation of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), Guru Vajradhara the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa graced the 23rd Shoton or Tibetan Opera Festival at the TCV School in Chauntra on April 20.

He gave a speech on the importance of Tibetan religion and culture to a large audience which included the Tibetan opera troupes performing at the festival, TCV teachers, staff and students and the general public.

He spoke about religion and culture being distinctive characteristics of human beings and the main causes for accomplishing our temporary and ultimate aims. He pointed out the direct connection between the thriving and deterioration of Tibetan religion and culture, such as the Tibetan Lhamo opera, and the flourishing and decline of the Tibetan language. He emphasized that the protection and preservation of Tibetan religion and culture is in the hands of all Tibetans, especially of the young students, and that, therefore, all of them need to contribute to this by engaging actively to do whatever they can.
