The annual sacred ceremonies to celebrate the kindness of Lord Buddha Shakyamuni in accordance with the Three Yanas were held from April 27 to 29 at Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat to mark the Saga Dawa according to the Kalachakra calendar. Saga Dawa celebrates three holy events in the life of Lord Buddha Shakyamuni: his birth in this world as Prince Siddhartha, his enlightenment, and his parinirvana.

Guru Vajradhara the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa inaugurated the celebrations with a teaching on the Four Noble Truths, which is the main subject of the first turning of the Wheel of Dharma. Following that, the Tulkus, Khenpos, Lamas, monks and nuns of Palpung Sherabling presented Dharma discourses about the ground, path and fruition as well as view, meditation and action from the point of view of the Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions. The three-day celebration of Lord Buddha’s life and activities also included: debates based on Buddhist scriptures and reasoning; discussions and presentations of common sciences such as grammar, logic, medicine and astrology; rituals and prayers preformed according to the specific traditions of the Three Yanas; and abundant offerings to please the enlightened ones.
