Saga Dawa marks three holy events that our kind teacher Lord Buddha, who is endowed with skilful means and great compassion, manifested in order to guide disciples—his birth, his enlightenment, and his parinirvana. According to the Kalachakra system of astrology, this year’s full moon day of the Saga month was celebrated on April 27.

The commemoration of Lord Buddha’s kindness at Palpung Yeshe Rabgye Ling Nunnery began with its khenpos, teachers, and nuns performing a ceremony for the purification and restoration of the three sets of vows in the morning, followed by a ritual of offerings and prayers dedicated to the Sixteen Arhats, exalted elders to whom the Buddha entrusted his teachings.

Guru Vajradhara the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa along with his tutor Lama Lodrö presided over the evening part of the commemoration, during which the nuns offered a discussion on the Madhyamika view, a debate on pramana, and discourses on the Buddha’s twelve deeds and Gampopa’s “Ornament of Precious Liberation,” while some junior nuns presented discourses on the life of the Buddha and conducted a discussion on this topic.
