The State Government of Sikkim extended an invitation to Guru Vajradhara His Holiness the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa to visit Sikkim primarily to perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the project of building a large statue of Lhatsun Namkha Jigme, the master who introduced Buddhism to the hidden land of Sikkim, as well as to conduct other Dharma activities. Guru Vajradhara accepted the invitation, and on February 18, 2024, accompanied by Chungpo Gyalton Rinpoche and his entourage, he arrived at Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal.

There, Guru Vajradhara received a grand welcome by the Honorable Sangha Minister of Sikkim, Shri Sonam Lama, and other state government officials, as well as representatives from Karma Kagyu monasteries in Kalimpong, Darjeeling, and Gangtok, along with an elaborate golden procession of leaders and monastics from Rumtek Dharma Chakra Monastic Seat.

Escorted by government officials from West Bengal and Sikkim, Guru Vajradhara departed from Siliguri towards Sikkim. At Chitrey, he was given a warm reception by a golden procession from H.E. Jamgön Kongtrul Rinpoche's monastic college and memorial school. Subsequently, he was welcomed at Rangpo by an elaborate procession of leaders from Phodong Monastery and hundreds of lay devotees. Continuing on his journey, he was received at Ranipool by the sangha of Old Rumtek Monastery and numerous lay devotees. At 5th Mile, he was welcomed by monastics from Zurmang Monastery and a multitude of lay devotees. Finally, Guru Vajradhara was welcomed at his residence, Denzong Regency in Gangtok, with an elaborate reception by the monastic community of Phensang Monastery and many lay devotees.
