A Teaching to International Dharma Students

At the request of Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, on December 14 2018 Guru Vajradhara the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa gave a teaching to more than five hundred Dharma students from many different countries from all six continents of the world at the main shrine hall of the Palpung Sherabling Monastic College.

Guru Vajradhara began with general advice on the meaning of positive and negative actions. He continued by emphasizing that we should become good human beings by improving our outer conduct and developing our inner qualities. This is the foundation of our spiritual progress and it will enable us to accomplish any present and future aims.

Guru Vajradhara advised the students to keep an open mind while receiving the transmission of quintessential instructions from an authentic Guru. While listening to the instructions, one’s mind should be like that of a child from the moment of birth up to the age of eight, free from expectations, doubts and preconceptions. If we listen in this way, true understanding arisen from hearing will dawn. What we have heard will thus not remain on a merely intellectual level. Through further reflection with a mind that is clear like the mind of a young student of the age between eight and sixteen, we will gain familiarity and arrive at a certainty that comes from investigating the true meaning. If we then energetically put these instructions into practice through meditation, like a young person in the prime of life of the age between sixteen and twenty-four, we will recognize our own faults and become genuine, self-confident Dharma practitioners.

This will make our spiritual practice progress and gradually lead to the realization of various stages of the path, so that we will be able to greatly benefit our own families, neighbors, society and the entire humanity. Thus, Guru Vajradhara offered profound instructions and clear guidance.
