In the 18th century, the annual tradition of observing the parinirvana anniversary of Milarepa, the sovereign of all siddhas in the Land of Snow and the lord of all yogis, along with donning cotton robes in his memory on the 14th day of the Month of Miracles was established at the great monastic seat of Palpung Thubten Chökhor Ling. This tradition that gradually spread far and wide has been preserved up to today.

Following the example of past masters and the vision and guidance of Guru Vajradhara His Holiness Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa, on the 14thday of this year's Month of Miracles (March 17, 2022) the monastic seat's Vajra Master and the Retreat Master, along with khenpos, tulkus, and lamas who completed the three-year and three-fortnight retreat, performed the guru yoga of Milarepa, the ritual of invoking the activity of the Three Roots, and the daily practice of the Six Yogas of Naropa. During the night, they donned the meditation hats and white cotton robes and chanted theocean of songs of the Kagyu masters. At 5:30 in the morning they formed the cotton-clad procession. Escorted by monks carrying incense, they circumambulated the main temple while singing songs of experience and realization and planting seeds of devotion in the minds of numerous fortunate beings.

On the 15thday of the Tibetan month, which marked the passing into celestial realms of Lord Marpa Lotsawa, the forefather of the teachings of the Practice Lineage and the king of translators, this anniversary was observed by recollecting his life through the practice of Marpa Guru Yoga, which included a joyful ganachakra feast.
