About PAVA Online

Audio and visual material contained in PAVA Online originate from Palpung Audio and Visual Archive (also known as PAVA and formerly known as Palpung Media Studio prior to 2013).

Reason for establishing Palpung Audio and Visual Archive (PAVA)

The Palpung establishment has played an important role throughout the history of Vajrayana Buddhism for the preservation of the eight practice lineages and ten teachings lineages of Vajrayana Buddhism. To continue this unbroken tradition, PAVA was established in order to allow more disciples to benefit from the sacred dharma teachings of the lineage through modern digital technology that enables the preservation and spread of the sacred dharma.

Development of Palpung Audio and Visual Archive so far

In 2004, when Very Venerable Thutop Rinpoche requested Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa to give teachings on the Mahamudra Ocean of Certainty text, he formed a work group in charge of recording, editing and producing the teachings. Since then, this work group has continued to record Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa's teachings and transmissions at Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat or elsewhere in India in the form of visual and audio records. The most significant of these records include the following:

  • Mahamudra Ocean of Certainty I – six year course DVD (2004 – 2009)
  • Mahamudra Ocean of Certainty II – six year course DVD (2008 – 2013)
  • Five Treasuries Empowerments and Transmissions video (2006 – 2008)
  • Ornament of Precious Liberation teaching by Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche
  • Mahamudra retreat instructions given to sangha (2009)
  • A response to a request series of DVD (from 2008)

Since 2006, teachings and transmissions given by Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa at Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat have been recorded, managed and distributed by this work group. The original text of teachings given by Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa that have been published by various publishers have often originated from the records retained by this precious audio and visual archive.

Very Venerable Thutop Rinpoche requested and gained the support of Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa in 2009 to establish PAVA (then known as Palpung Media Studio) in order to better preserve and manage the precious audio and visual records of teachings and transmissions given by Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa. An office for PAVA was established in Taipei, Taiwan at the end of 2010.

2011 – PAVA began to test video conferencing teaching and internet live broadcast methods of transmission, and sucessively held short term video conference teachings given by Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa. These teachings include Seven Points of Mind Training, Bardo teachings, the Four Noble Truths.

March 2013 – PAVA successfully launched its first long term series of video conferencing teachings. That is, a long term series of teachings on Gampopa's Ornament of Precious Liberation by Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa that is estimated to go for at least three years. There are more than ten centers with hundreds of students globally participating in this live video conferencing teaching.

2013 – Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa officially appointed and authorized Very Venerable Thutop Rinpoche and PAVA (formerly known as Palpung Media Studio) to manage the intellectual property rights arising from the teachings and transmissions given by him so as to ensure the authenticity and integrity of the sacred dharma preserved and distributed through audio, visual OR textual forms.
