On August 16, according to the vision of Guru Vajradhara the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa, the monastic community of Palpung Sherabling entered the annual summer retreat by performing the Three Grounds Ritual at the main shrine hall of the Palpung Sherabling Monastic College. Summer retreat is one of the Three Grounds of Vinaya, which are said to be the source of limitless virtue and happiness and the basis of all Buddha's teachings. After completing all the necessary arrangements, such as cleaning the temple and preparing the living quarters, along with personal provisions, the Khenpos, Acharyas and monks began the 45-day summer retreat. During this time, they commit to remain within the retreat boundary; to practice the three spheres of studying the view, resting in meditation and maintaining excellent conduct; engaging in the ten virtuous Dharma activities; and dedicating their time to explaining various Sutras and Tantras and the activities of listening, reflection and meditation.
