The main monastery was part of the construction of Palpung monastery when it was first established by the Eighth Kenting Tai Situpa Chokyi Jungne; yet it is not until the Eleventh Kenting Tai Situpa Pema Wangchok does he extend Palpung monastery by enlarging the main monastery. The square measure of the main monastery is around 6,231 square meters. It is a large compound with houses around a courtyard built facing south and is as high as 40 meters with seven floors; inside the building there are nearly 40 rooms in total. The surroundings of the whole building were rammed in maroon clay;the top of the walls was 1.5 meter tall of the black Pengyen Wall(Pema Wall)embellished with bronze-made eight auspicious symbols, ornaments by the hands of Nepalese artisans. The building is flat-roofed. The interior decoration of the shrine hall is full of varieties including abundant of precious frescoes, sculptures and different ritual instruments.
The main shrine hall within the main monastery contains a seven-floor tall statue of the standing posture Buddha Maitreya; in addition, on the right side of the statue contains relics Stupa of the Eleventh Kenting Tai Situpa Pema Wangchok , on the other side a statue of Sakyamuni. Other relics in the main shrine hall include the so called "Red crown throne Seat" for all successive Kenting Tai Situpa in the past, statues of Guru Rinpoche and White Tara etc. There are some reconstructive murals of sixteen arahats and dharma protectors around the main shrine hall as well.
Currently a lot of appearances of the monastery and the shrine halls were blasted; therefore various exterior and interior parts of the main monastery are currently under construction. The majority of construction expenditures come from donations of local disciples and support from the 12th Kenting Tai Situpa.
Due to insufficient website database at the moment, we can only sum up few parts as followed along with descriptions of those pictures to give readers a general idea of the facilities of the main monastery of Palpung monastery. When more information is collected in the future, further detail elaborations will be made.
