The retreat center for nuns, was built on the east ridge in 1983. It was the first three year three month retreat center for women outside of historic Tibet, and the first time that retreat facilities for nuns were included in a monastic setting. The retreat center includes a shrine hall, an apartment for visiting teachers, and rooms for fifteen retreat participants. Jangchub Samten Ling has been refurbished and expanded in 2004.

Seven nuns completed the first retreat, twelve the second. During these two sessions the retreat master was late Very venerable Saljay Rinpoche and Venerable Drupon Lama Tsultrim and from third group onwards retreat master is Very venerable Mingyur Rinpoche and Venerable Drupon Lama Tsultrim. Currently the fifth group is in retreat.

Lama Ani Karma Dechen Negi is the manager and one of the teachers of the center.
