In year 2000, there were about 60 schoolboys in the primary school of Palpung sherabling. One year later, in 2001, The number reached to 150. It keeps this number till now.
A two-storey building located at the front of the main monastery is now used as the temporary primary school. It includes some classrooms and accommodations for students.
There are five teachers teach in the school. As part of their religious education the young students recite the core prayers that monks and nuns should know by heart. They also study Tibetan and English language, and have general studies that include mathematics, geography, and general science.
There are plans to build the Palpung Monastic Primary School for the young monks at Palpung Sherabling. It will include classrooms, dormitories and a hall for assembly which will also be used by the Health Clinic for physic-therapeutic exercises and health programs.
